Information for P7 pupils transitioning to S1
Transition from Primary School to Secondary for Instrumental Music Service (IMS)
I would like to inform you of the arrangements and procedures taking place to allow a smooth transition in order to continue and sustain your child’s Instrumental Music learning at their new school.
Your child’s name has been forwarded to the Principal Teacher of Music at the new school and they will be aware of the new “instrumentalists” in S1 arriving from Primary. Under normal circumstances, contact would be made by the Principal Teacher within class music lessons and the procedures would be explained to them. Obviously, this is not the case this year.
I can confirm that tutors have submitted names of pupils leaving Primary 7 going into S1 after the holidays and we are in the process of setting up new Microsoft Teams for this change. If this is involving the same teacher, the teacher will explain what Team they are in after Summer and how to go about receiving lessons next session. If a change of teacher is going to be the case, again your child’s present teacher will explain on what to do to continue lessons after Summer in their new school. Your child’s new teacher will also make contact to explain the arrangements.
The IMS is shortly going to have access to one to one and group live teaching through Google Meet. This is the long-awaited news that the Music Service has been waiting for and will allow the Service a real opportunity to get IMS pupils learning with live input and interaction from teachers.
At present Education and Children’s Services is still bringing together how the Education programme will look after the holidays as circumstances are changing daily. As soon as these details are finalised, and there is clarity of how the instrumental music lessons will fit within these plans, we will notify all parents.
Thank you once again for your continued support in these challenging times.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss anything further.
Kind Regards
Allan Young
Music Co-ordinator
