Central Group Ensembles
The Perth and Kinross Central Music Group Ensembles exist as an integral part of instrumental education in schools and to provide pupils with an opportunity to perform a wide range of challenging music. The principal aim of this programme is to build on the skills and techniques learned in instrumental lessons, expose pupils to new and challenging repertoire and provide opportunities to participate in a broad and exciting range of music activities such as concerts, music festivals, tours, recordings, workshops and master-classes.
What ensembles are available?
There is an ensemble for all instrumentalists to participate in from beginner’s right up to advanced players.

All rehearsals take place from September/October – March throughout the winter at the Music Centre, North Inch Community Campus.
These ensembles are coached weekly throughout the winter months by highly experienced tutors and conductors and perform at local concerts, highlighted at the end of the year by Annual Central Groups Concerts.
It is hoped that if there is enough demand for transport from rural areas, a subsidised bus will be made available courtesy of the Young Musicians’ Parents’ Association, Perth Youth Orchestra etc.
How can I register for a Central Group?

How much will it cost to join a Central Group?
The annual membership charge is 81.05. You may attend more than one Central Group at no additional cost.
What payment exemptions are available?
Central groups are provided free of charge where the parents/guardians of the pupil are in receipt of Employment Support Allowance or Income Based Job Seekers Allowance. Youth Music Instructed pupils will be charged. You will be required to produce proof of receipt of benefit to Finance Support Team, Education & Children’s Services, by means of a photocopy of your benefits book or letter from the Benefits Agency, confirming benefit. No other benefit (eg Working Families Tax Credit or Disabled Person’s Tax Credit) qualifies as an entitlement to free central groups.
Is transport available?
Transport for Central Groups is not provided by Perth & Kinross Council. However, there is subsidised transport generously provided by the Central Groups Transport Association.
